Mustang Mach-E

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is a battery electriccompact crossover SUV produced by Ford.[9] The vehicle was introduced on November 17, 2019, and went on sale in December 2020 as a 2021 model.[10][11] The vehicle uses the Mustang nameplate,[12] with a Mach-E moniker which is inspired by the Mach 1 variant of the first-generation Mustang. The car won the 2021 North American SUV of the Year Award.[13]

What the critics have to say…

Ford’s first fully-fledged electric car. And that makes it Very Important Indeed. You won’t find a Ford badge on it anywhere

CarWow

HOW DOES IT DRIVE?

The Mach-E may be a wagon-like SUV, but it delivers the speed and agility you’d expect of anything wearing a Mustang badge. We tested a Mach-E in the Premium trim with the extended-range battery and all-wheel drive. At the Edmunds test track, it zipped from 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. A few rival EVs are a little quicker (the Tesla Model Y, for instance) but overall the Mach-E, at least the version we tested, is pleasingly quick.

Edmunds

IS IT RELIABLE AND HIGH QUALITY?

Is the Ford Mustang Mach-E Reliable?

The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E has a predicted reliability score of 60 out of 100. A J.D. Power predicted reliability score of 91-100 is considered the Best, 81-90 is Great, 70-80 is Average, and 0-69 is Fair and considered below average.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Warranty

Ford covers the Mustang Mach-E with a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty, a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, and an eight-year/100,000-mile electric component warranty.

HOW COMFORTABLE IS IT?

Highlights include a suspension that excels at soaking up large bumps in the road, a cabin that’s well insulated against wind and ambient noise, and an excellent and easy-to-use climate control system. The available seat and steering wheel heaters get toasty pretty quick, though we’d welcome the option of seat ventilation for warmer climates.

Edmunds

WHAT IS THE INTERIOR LIKE?

The Mustang Mach-E’s battery is located under the floor of the car, which allows for maximum cargo and passenger space. Unlike its exterior, the inside of the Mach-E has little in common with the regular Mustang. Its streamlined dashboard hosts an attractive digital gauge cluster and is dominated by a huge vertically mounted touchscreen. A floating, flip-up armrest on the center console allows a purse or other items to be stored between the front-seat passengers. There are also many slick features that include customizable ambient interior lighting, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, and more.

Car and Driver

WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY LIKE?

The Mach-E nails its interior tech. We like the big 15.5-inch center touchscreen that’s supported by physical controls, such a volume knob. Unlike the Model Y, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration is present and also wireless (though you can still connect through USB cord). Ford’s onboard navigation system is responsive and cleanly designed, but not so overly minimalistic like some competitor systems.

Edmunds

WHAT IS THE CARGO SPACE LIKE?

The Mustang Mach-E has 29.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and 59.7 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. That’s spacious for an electric SUV, and there’s plenty of room for hauling carry-on bags, groceries, golf clubs, and bulky cargo like moving boxes. There is also a 4.7-cubic-foot front trunk (or “frunk”) with an integrated drain and sufficient room for water bottles, bags of ice, or mucky hiking boots.

IS THIS VEHICLE A GOOD VALUE?

Unlike Tesla, Ford’s EV credits have not yet run out, meaning the potential discounts on the Mach-E make it a pretty attractive deal. Build quality feels solid overall, and the cabin is beautifully trimmed in a style that feels reminiscent of Scandinavian design. If not for the typical Ford switchgear that appears on the steering wheel and doors, you might think you were in a Lincoln.

Edmunds

IS THE Mustang Mach-E A GOOD VEHICLE?

The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is a great electric SUV, and it’s one of the first vehicles to truly rival a Tesla. The Mach-E accelerates swiftly and silently, and it offers up to 305 miles of driving range on a full charge. It’s relaxing to drive on Main Street yet fun to pilot on winding roads, and its luxe cabin provides generous seating space and cargo room. This Ford also boasts an easy-to-use infotainment system and lots of driver assistance features, including BlueCruise, which is a hands-free driving mode.

SHOULD I BUY THE Mustang Mach-E?

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is worth a look if you’re shopping for an electric SUV. It offers a fine mix of performance, practicality, and value (prices start at under $43,000). That being said, this segment is growing rapidly, so you may want to keep your options open. In addition to the benchmark Tesla Model Y, electric SUV newcomers include the Volkswagen ID.4, and Chevy Bolt EUV.

THE FINAL WORD

The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is an excellent electric SUV. The Mach-E blends an excellent all-electric driving range with swift acceleration and polished handling. It also happens to have a roomy and upscale interior, a sleek infotainment system, and a wealth of active safety features.
